「は」と「わ」の使い分けはどうすれば良いのでしょうか?

例えば「こんにちは」と書いても「は」は「わ」と発音しますね。

「は」は常に「わ」と発音されますか?

Hey Saya!
I have the same question, when do you differentiate between は、and わ?

I see in it こんばんは、きょは、- good evening and today. There must be a rule when it is わ and when it is は。

Thanks!

Q. Why is 'wa' sometimes written in hiragana 'ha' and read 'wa' (but not 'ha' as is written)?

A. When 'wa' is used as a particle (the topic marker は), it is read 'wa' but written 'ha'.

ex) 私 は げんき です。
     watashi wa genki desu.
(As for me, I am good.)

'wa' of 私(わたし)is written in hiragana わ, since it is a part of the pronoun 'I'.
The same as in かわいい: as it is an adjective 'cute' in Japanese, it is used わ to describe the sound of 'wa' (of 'kawaii').

While 私 は as is shown in the example above, 'watashi wa' is not one single word, but two different words (私, pronoun 'I' and the topic marker 'wa'). Therefore it is written in hiragana は, but not わ.

The topic marker は is always pronounced 'wa', though it is written 'ha'.

こんにちは and こんばんは are not one word, but a phrase (noun + particle).

こんにちは literally means "How are you today?" (こんにち ごきげん いかがですか?), however, most of the part of the question sentence is omitted and simply said 'こんにち' (こんにち = 今日 = today +  = topic marker).

こんばんは is "How are you tonight?" (こんばん ごきげん いかがですか?), but, we shorten the sentence and say only the beginning  'こんばん' (こんばん = 今晩 = tonight +  = topic marker).

ありがとう、

However to add a layer to original question being asked, when do you use the different topic marker が (ga) and は (wa)?

I see them being used in different places.

きょは あつぃです。Today is hot
(Please notice the はin the above sentence)

うみが うきです。ー I like the ocean
(Notice the が)

Both sentences have subjects but one uses わand the other が。

Your help is much appreciated,

Thank you

Mojiさん: 最初の質問投稿に追加する形で、聞きたいことがあります。「が」と「は」の使い分け方を教えて下さい。

「今日(きょう)は 暑い(あつい)です」という文と「海(うみ)が好き(すき)です」という文は、英語ではどちらの文にも主語がありますが、日本語では一方の文には「は」が使われていますが、もう一方の文では(「は」ではなく)「が」が使われています。

日本人の皆さんはどう使い分けているのですか?
